Suicide Prevention, Depression and Mental Health
Thursday, March 12th
7:00 - 8:00pm, followed by 30 minute Q&A

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), after accidents and homicide, suicide is the third-leading cause of death for 15- to 24-year-olds. It's also thought that at least 25 attempts are made for every completed teen suicide.

Let’s talk about our children’s mental health challenges, what causes depression and suicide, and its signs and symptoms. We will also learn when to get help and how to prevent your child (and/or a loved one) from committing suicide.

Adolescent Child Development
Wednesday, April 29th
7:00 - 8:00pm, followed by 30 minute Q&A

Many parents do not understand why their teenagers occasionally behave in an impulsive, irrational, or dangerous way. At times, it seems like teens don't think things through or fully consider the consequences of their actions. It’s okay, there is an explanation for this.

Let’s talk about the adolescent brain and how it develops. We will learn adolescent developmental changes, including what’s normal and what isn’t. We will also learn how to deal with our children at each stage of development.

Defiant Teens
Tuesday, May 19th
7:00 - 8:00pm, followed by 30 minute Q&A

Adolescence can be a difficult phase in life to navigate. Defying the wishes of their parents (or other authority figures) and testing limits is a normal part of growing up for teens. Teens are trying to figure out who they are, establish their independence, and express themselves. Unfortunately, in some teens, this process can cause them to act out in a negative way. Just because it’s normal behavior, doesn’t make it acceptable. To keep the peace in your home, you need strategies to deal with your teen’s defiant behavior.

Let’s talk about 10 strategies for the frustrated parent to handle a defiant teenager.

Teens and Drugs
Tuesday, June 9th
7:00 - 8:00pm, followed by 30 minute Q&A

Addictive drugs and substances are everywhere in our society. Some have been around for decades or even centuries, while others have just cropped up in recent years.

Treatment centers see teenage patients struggling with addiction to many different types of drugs. As a parent, it’s important to stay informed of the drug landscape and to learn how it can affect your teen if they experiment.

Let’s talk about the signs and symptoms of drug/substance abuse, new experimental drugs, and how to get help if you find that your teen is experimenting with drugs.
